Privacy Policy

PlanTape keeps your work on your device. There is no account, no sign-in, and no cloud storage. We — Lakeborne Labs — have no technical ability to receive, see, or store your blueprints, measurements, or notes. The one thing the app sends anywhere is pseudonymous usage statistics, described below — and you can switch those off. This policy explains it all in full.

What we collect

Pseudonymous usage statistics — nothing else, and never your plans.PlanTape counts which features get used (for example, how many plans were imported, or whether a measurement was made with snapping on) so we can see what to improve. These events are pseudonymous: they carry a random ID for your install, not your name or contact details.

  • No names, email addresses, or accounts — none exist in the app.
  • Never your plans, file names, measurements, addresses, or text read from a drawing. The drawing's scale ratio (like 1:100) is sent, and so is a note when several taps land in one spot. The app strips and buckets values on the device before anything is sent.
  • No advertising identifier (IDFA) and no cross-app tracking of any kind.
  • A random install identifier (a UUID) ties events from the same install together. We do not link it to you. Deleting the app discards it, and so does turning statistics off (see below).
  • Your approximate location — country and city. PostHog derives it from your connection's IP address when the event arrives. We have PostHog's “discard client IP” setting switched on for PlanTape, so the IP address is not stored with the events and we use it for nothing else.

Because the install identifier and the approximate location are tied to a device, this is pseudonymous data, not anonymous data, and we treat it as personal data under the GDPR. We use it on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the app (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). It is opt-out: the app shows a one-time note before anything is sent, with the switch beside it, and nothing is sent until you have seen that note.

The statistics are processed for us byPostHog on servers in the European Union (Frankfurt), under a data-processing agreement. You can turn the statistics off at any time inSettings → About → Privacy inside the app (or with the switch on the one-time note); the app works identically either way. Turning them off stops collection, clears anything still waiting to be sent, and resets the install identifier on that iPhone, so any later events could not be matched to the earlier ones. PlanTape contains no advertising and sells no data to anyone.

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics scripts. The one exception is the short links in our social media profiles (plantape.com/tt and plantape.com/ig): when you tap one, we record a single anonymous count — which link, and whether it was opened from TikTok, Instagram or elsewhere — before sending you to the App Store. No IP address, device identifier or cookie is kept with it.

Retention and deletion

Usage statistics are held by PostHog in the EU (Frankfurt). The PostHog plan we use keeps product-analytics events for at most 7 years; we do not need them that long and intend to delete older events sooner.

To have your data deleted, the simplest way is to turn statistics off in the app: that stops collection and resets the identifier on that iPhone, so nothing new can be tied to the old events. The app does not show the identifier, so we cannot find your events from a name or an email. If you still want the earlier events removed, email info@lakebornelabs.com; we will work out together how to find them (for example by the time and place of use) and delete what we can match.

You have the right to access, correct and delete your data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to complain to the data protection authority — in Finland, the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi).

What stays on your device

Everything you do in PlanTape is stored only in the app's own storage on your iPhone:

  • PDF blueprints you open or import
  • Measurements, calibration, polygons, and annotations you create
  • App settings and preferences
  • Crash and hang reports from iOS, which the app keeps for diagnosing problems. They are not uploaded. They leave your phone only if you choose “Send diagnostics” in Settings → About and pick where to send them.

This data never leaves your device unless you choose to share it (see below). If you delete the app, this data is removed with it.

When you share or export

When you use the iOS share sheet to export a flattened PDF or image, that file goes wherever you direct it — Mail, Messages, Files, AirDrop, or another app of your choosing. From that point the data is handled by iOS and the destination you picked, under their terms, not ours. PlanTape does not transmit anything on its own.

Device backups and iCloud

PlanTape does not sync to any cloud and has no server-side storage. If you have enabled Apple's device-level iCloud Backup or iCloud Drive, your PlanTape files may be included in that backup as part of your normal iOS backup. That is your own Apple iCloud storage, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, and is never accessible to us.

Beta testing via TestFlight

While PlanTape is distributed through Apple TestFlight, Apple may collect crash logs and basic usage information and provide it to us in aggregate to improve the app. That collection is performed by Apple, not by PlanTape, and is governed byApple's TestFlight and App Store terms and Apple's Privacy Policy. PlanTape itself adds nothing beyond the pseudonymous usage statistics described above.

Children's privacy

PlanTape is a professional tool not directed at children, and it asks for no name or contact details from anyone, including children under 13, and the usage statistics carry only a random install ID.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the revised version at this same address. Material changes will be reflected before they take effect.
